Marine Mammals

“What was that degree you went off to do again?”

In 2008 I went to the University of St Andrews to do a one-year Masters degree in Marine Mammal Science.  This course examined the general biology, behaviour, conservation and management of marine mammals.  We were also taught research methods:  biologging, statistics, various computer software, how to plan experiments and field studies.  It finished with students conducting their own research project for 3 months.  For this, I studied the aggressive behaviour, movement patterns and anthropogenic effects on grey seals (Halichoerus grypus).

I’ll be adding various topics about marine mammals to this section, just to give you an insight into what it is I actually want to spend my life doing.  Hopefully you’ll see why I find it so addictive!  To navigate, use the drop-down menu in the “Marine Mammals” tab button above to view different articles.
